Four Paintings by Anne Heywood Destroyed in Fire

Four large paintings by American Realist Anne Heywood were recently destroyed in a fire at the Portland Art Gallery in Portland, Maine. “It was truly a shock to receive that phone call,” says Heywood. “I’ve never had one of my works lost in a fire before. A sense of deep loss came over me when I heard the news. To never see those paintings again, to know that they will not have the chance to bring a collector joy, saddens me.”  The fire department responded quickly, but the fire, smoke, and sprinkler water damaged a number of paintings by various artists. “The Portland Art Gallery handled this unfortunate incident very professionally. The gallery is now open, except for the area most damaged, which should be reopening soon,” adds Heywood.
