Do paintings have their own “visual language?” The Heywood Gallery offers visitors the experience to find that out firsthand with “The Language of Paintings: Feelings, Moods, and Mysteries” on view for Artwalk Waldoboro on Friday, June 26th, 4:00 to 7:00 pm until July 11th.
“Almost from the start of my art career,” says Anne Heywood, realist artist and owner of the gallery, “I decided that I wanted my paintings to communicate something that goes beyond quick, superficial impressions. That is the goal that I still set for myself while creating my work. In order to make and understand the visual language, however, both artist and viewer need to slow down and ‘see,’ not merely look.”

The “Language of Paintings: Feelings, Moods, and Mysteries” collection is tastefully arranged in every room on the first floor of this historic building. Samples of pet portraits along with prints and notecards round out the collection.
Anne Heywood is an American Realist, author (Pastels Made Easy, Watson-Guptill Publications, NYC, 2003) and art educator. During her long career she has earned many honors and awards: she is listed in Who’s Who in American Women and has had many of her artworks and writings published in books and magazines such as “Australian Artist.” The Heywood Gallery is located at 921 Main Street in the historic “Governors’ Mansion” located in the heart of downtown Waldoboro Village (across from the Waldo Theatre).
